PLYMOUTH POLICE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES TWO CONSECUTIVE STATE GRANTS FOR POLICE OFFICER WELLNESS PROGRAMS
The Town of Plymouth is pleased to announce that its Police Department will receive $37,984.96 through the Commonwealth’s FY24 Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Grant Program, to support wellness programming and holistic stress management solutions for Plymouth’s police officers.
Issued by the Office of Grants & Research (OGR), a division of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety & Security (EOPSS), the FY24 CISM Grant is the second annual offering of this new program, which is designed to fund law enforcement agencies with stress management and peer support programs that will address police officer mental wellness and suicide prevention. On March 1st, Governor Maura Healey announced that twelve Massachusetts law enforcement agencies will receive grants through the FY24 CISM funding round. Plymouth’s Police Department will utilize its award to fund programs, training, and equipment through its Peer Support Unit, a five-officer unit tasked with providing its membership with wellness outreach, stress reduction training, clinical intervention, and mentoring.
The Peer Support Unit actively seeks out officers who have been exposed to trauma, to ensure that comprehensive services and plans are in place to reduce stress, encourage healthy coping skills, and foster post traumatic recovery. Plymouth’s FY24 award of $37,984.96 builds upon the Police Department’s success in the FY23 CISM grant round, in which the Department was awarded $21,658.69—bringing the total grant funds secured for critical incident stress management services to $59,643.65.
“I am grateful to the Healey-Driscoll Administration for continuing to make investments in the Critical Incident Stress Management grant program and for the recent FY24 awards to 12 Massachusetts Police Departments to support the health and well-being of our first responders,” said State Representative Matt Muratore. “I am also grateful to the Plymouth Police Department for their dedication and outstanding service to the community and thrilled that they were awarded a second grant for continued support and growth of its Peer Support Unit to ensure that critical services and supports are in place when needed.”
“With the support of the Commonwealth's FY24 CISM Grant, Plymouth's Police Department continues its steadfast commitment to officer wellness, ensuring they are equipped with the resources and support needed to navigate the challenges they face daily," said State Representative Kathy LaNatra. “I am so proud of our Police Department and their efforts to look out for one another through the Peer Support Unit,” said Richard Quintal, chairman of Plymouth’s Select Board. “Our officers face danger and difficulty, every day, so any opportunity to improve or expand the assistance and encouragement provided by the Peer Support Unit is critical. I am grateful that the Healey-Driscoll Administration places a priority on these programs, and I am truly pleased that they have recognised our Police Department’s initiatives with two consecutive awards.”
