Federal Furnace Road Water Main Replacement

The Town of Plymouth has entered into a construction contract with C. Naughton Corp. of Bridgewater, MA to complete the Federal Furnace Road Water Main Replacement project. The work involves installation of 12-inch ductile iron water main, gate valves, fire hydrants, and water services on Federal Furnace Road between Federal Furnace Road Elementary School and South Meadow Road.

Construction activities will commence on Monday, July 7, 2025, beginning near Federal Furnace Elementary School. Construction will take place Monday – Friday, typically between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., during which time various equipment, machinery, and materials will be in the roadway. No work is anticipated to occur on weekends or holidays. Roadway trenches will be paved daily. Water main construction is expected to be completed by December 15, 2025.

Please exercise caution while operating a motorized vehicle in the construction area. Additionally, please keep children and pets at a safe distance from any construction activity. There will be signage and detailed police officers to direct traffic during construction. Please use caution when approaching and passing construction crews.

Please expect delays when approaching the job site as the Contractor may be required to move their equipment to accommodate for vehicle passing. It is anticipated the roads will remain open to local and emergency traffic and driveway access will be maintained throughout construction.

The Contractor will reconnect and restore water service to each customer currently connected to the water system within the project limits. Please note there may be occasions when water service will be interrupted. In the event of planned water shut downs, you will be notified in advance.

If you experience dirty water during construction, the DPW Water Division recommends running cold water from an outside spigot, if possible, for 20 minutes. If the water does not clear, turn the water off, wait an hour, or as long as possible, and run the spigot for another 20 minutes. The discolored water is a result of flushing the water main, which dislodges naturally occurring iron and manganese deposits that build up in the main over time.

The Town has retained the services of an Engineering Representative, Apex Companies, LLC., to oversee the Contractor and act as the Water Department’s liaison. Personnel will be onsite throughout the construction activities should you have any questions or concerns. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact any of the following individuals:

Peter Gordon, Water Superintendent – 508-830-4162 x 12141
